On October 17th Maggie and I sailed Royal Caribbean "Grandeur of the sea" out of Baltimore with my cousin Lars Yahn and his wife Terry. This was their first cruise and our third.

After cruising all day Friday we arrived in Portland, Maine. Saturday morning we boarded a bus that drove us on a guided tour to Portland Head Light lighthouse. The station was located along the rocky shore where the wind was gently blowing and the temperature was warm enough for just a light jacket. This was a perfect first stop because there was just a short amount of walking required, and it gave us a chance to loosen up. One of the houses in front of the light had souvenirs for sale so Terry was happy to start shopping.

As the bus continued along the shore our guide Claire pointed out the Bush family house that they used for summer vacations. We headed back towards Kennebunkport and saw many fabulous homes and estates that makes Maine a vacation spot.

We stopped in Kennebunkport for shopping and dining. Claire recommended the "Pilot House" as a good restaurant so we dined on our first lobster of the trip. Maggie showed Terry and Lars the fine art of separating the meat from the shell. The service was a little slow because of the large number of buses that arrived, but the servers were apologetic and did their best.

The bus returned us to the ship, and soon we were under way. That evening we ate in the Great Gatsby dining room. Everyone was beginning to relax and let the crew pamper us, while we introduced Lars and Terry to the intoxicating beverages called drinks and shots of the day. We usually sat in the theatre for performance by the crew, then headed to the Centrum or Schooner bar where they had live music playing. We headed to bed around midnight anticipating our next stop, Bar Harbor, Maine.
